CLASS PROGRAMS

Below is an overview of special programs featuring our classmates and the times we lived in while at Smith. For details please refer to the Smith College Reunion Program App. We hope you’ll plan to attend them all!

ALL WEEKEND –

  • At the Smith College Museum of Art – A special installation “A Beacon to the World” features artwork recently donated by Sylvia Smith Lewis ’74 and her husband. See the college’s press release describing this important exhibit.
  • At Alumnae House – “Celebrating Black Presence: A Smithie’s Photographic Memoir” provides digital images of Smith in the ‘70s by Sandra Turner Bond ‘74 and celebrates the cohort of Black students in the Class of 1974
  • At Neilson Library – A pop-up exhibit in the Special Collections room will display materials related to our Saturday program “Half a Century of Ms. and Half a Century of Us.”

THURSDAY –

  • 4:00 pm – Check-in opens (Seelye Hall)
  • 8:00 pm – we’ll kick off the weekend w/ a fun ice-breaker activity (Lamont)

FRIDAY –

  • 12 noon – Class lunch with reserved tables for JYA alumnae (Cutter/Ziskind). Groove, a student a capella group, will perform during lunch (12:30-12:45pm)
  • 2:00-2:40 pm – Sylvia Lewis ’74 will greet classmates at the museum to introduce the exhibit “A Beacon to the World”
  • 2:45-4:00 pm – Our class program “From Smith Students to Smith Stewards” will feature classmates who are current or recent former Smith Trustees: Linda Charles, Deb DeCotis, Peggie Ward Koon and Beverly Morgan-Welch, in a lively conversation moderated by Lynne Brown ’74 (Weinstein Auditorium, Wright Hall)
  • 5:00 -6:00 pm – Class cocktail reception with President Sarah Willie-LeBreton (Skyline Lounge, Neilson Library)
  • 6:30pm – Class dinner (Cutter/Ziskind)
  • 8:00 pm – Mini reunion for classmates who were in Glee Club (Lamont)

SATURDAY –

  • 9:00 am – Alumnae Parade – we’ll provide festive red hats and class totes
  • 11:00 am – class photo – location to be announced
  • 1:00 – 2:15 pm – Memorial service to remember classmates we’ve lost since our 45th Reunion (Sweeny Concert Hall, Sage Hall)
  • 2:30-3:30 pm – Our class program “Half a Century of Ms Magazine, Half a Century of Us” will be a conversation between Smith professor emerita Nancy Bradbury ’74 and Professor Carrie Baker, a current contributing editor for Ms. magazine (Weinstein Auditorium, Wright Hall). See optional readings for some background.
  • 3:45-4:35 pm – Andrea Hairston ’74 will be giving a Faculty Talk about her new book, Archangels of Funk (Graham Hall, Hillyer Hall)
  • 6:30pm – Class dinner (Cutter/Ziskind)
